It
is time to introduce the equine star of the group! Diego is a Percheron/Thoroughbred
cross, 16.1 hh and dark bay/brown with a single white star on his forhead
and a white snip round the coronet band of his right hind foot. He is
9 years old and has been in training now for three years. We ‘discovered’
him at a resort in Kelowna, BC on our way to a competition in Chilliwack.
He came along and passed all the tests of time and adventure and is
now working with our vaulters as their canter horse. His training consists
of dressage and jumping lessons when he is not being used for vaulting,
and Hannah takes him to a few schooling shows and local combined training
events. He usually accompanies the family on riding holidays in the
interior of B.C. and the occasional weekend of riding in the mountains
of Alberta.
We
are now introducing a smaller horse to assist Diego in his duties. Airlie,
a Registered Haflinger mare, is also 9 years old and 14.1 hh. She will
vault with the younger and smaller vaulters at the walk/trot levels.
She has been a broodmare for Camp River Haflingers for the past 5 years
and has produced 3 foals. She is now being retired from breeding and
will participate in the same activities as Diego as cross-training for
vaulting.
